Distalization appliances are used in orthodontics to create space by moving posterior teeth distally. This conservative method is especially useful when space is needed for the eruption of new teeth or when nearby teeth become loose. Common distalization appliances include the pendulum appliance and the K-loop appliance. These are effective in cases such as Class II malocclusions and moderate space shortages in the upper arch. Distalization can be achieved through extraoral traction or by using a removable appliance, offering a non-extraction solution for space management in orthodontic treatments.
